My Journey to Birth Photography
Photography has been a part of my life since childhood. My dad was passionate about it, and I grew up watching him capture moments with care and precision. Often, I would borrow his camera and make my friends and siblings pose while I practiced my own style, and when he passed down his equipment to me, it felt natural to continue that love for photography. But my journey into the niche world of birth photography was born from my passion for women’s empowerment and my own transformative experience with birth.
In college, I minored in global women's studies, diving into topics surrounding women’s health, rights, and experiences around the world. I’ve always been inspired by the strength of women, and when I became pregnant with my daughter, that passion turned personal. I absorbed everything I could about pregnancy and birth, wanting to understand every aspect of the process. My sister, who is in love with all things birth, also became an incredible source of knowledge and support.
When it came time for my own birth, I chose to do a birth center, and was supported by an all-women team—my midwife, doula, mom, sister, and of course my baby girl. It was powerful, intensely hard, and completely life-changing. That experience solidified my belief that birth is not just a medical event—it’s an emotional, transformative journey that deserves to be documented with the same care and reverence as any other major life milestone. Motherhood has singlehandedly been the biggest adventure of my life.
Birth photography allows me to merge my love for storytelling with my passion for supporting women. It’s about capturing strength, vulnerability, and the profound beauty of bringing a new life into the world. Every birth I photograph is unique, and I am honored to witness and preserve those moments for families to cherish forever.
If you’re expecting and want to document your birth story, I’d love to connect. Let’s celebrate the power of birth together.
