Why Some Families Choose a Fresh 48 Session
As a birth photographer, I have the incredible honor of documenting one of the most life-changing moments in a family’s story: the moment a new life enters the world. Birth photography captures the beauty of labor, delivery, and those first breathless seconds of meeting your baby. It’s intense, emotional, and absolutely unforgettable.
But for some families, a Fresh 48 session feels like the right fit — and there are many reasons why.
What Is a Fresh 48 Session?
A Fresh 48 session takes place within the first two days (48 hours) after birth, typically in the hospital, birth center, or even at home if you've had a home birth. It’s a relaxed, documentary-style photo session that captures the magic of those first hours: the tiny hospital bracelet, the wrinkly newborn skin, the sleepy snuggles, and the awe in your eyes as you start getting to know your little one.
No props. No posing. Just real, raw love — in the very beginning of your baby’s life.
Why Some Families Choose Fresh 48
While birth photography offers a once-in-a-lifetime documentation of your labor and delivery, there are a variety of reasons why some families opt for Fresh 48 instead:
1. A More Budget-Friendly Option
Birth photography is a deeply immersive experience — I go on call 24/7 for weeks surrounding your due date, and I’m there for as long as your labor takes. That level of dedication and time investment is reflected in the price. Fresh 48 sessions, on the other hand, are shorter, scheduled after baby arrives, and don’t require the same on-call commitment — making them a more budget-friendly option for families who still want to preserve the early magic without the higher investment of full birth coverage.
2. A More Rested, Private Experience
Some parents prefer their birth experience without having a photographer in the room, which I totally understand. With a Fresh 48, I capture the same early emotions — that overwhelming love, the tiny details you’ll want to remember forever — in a quieter, more rested environment once everyone has had a chance to settle in.
3. Hospital Details & First Meetings
Fresh 48 sessions are a beautiful way to remember those fleeting hospital moments — baby's first bath, siblings meeting for the first time, nursing for the first time, or the way they looked all bundled up in that iconic hospital blanket and hat. These little things fade quickly from memory, and photos help you hold on to them.
4. A Complement to Birth Photography
Some families choose both — birth photography and a Fresh 48 session. The two styles complement each other perfectly. While birth photos tell the story of how your baby entered the world, Fresh 48 photos capture what it felt like to finally hold them in your arms.
Every Story Is Beautiful — No Matter How You Tell It
As someone deeply passionate about birth photography, I truly believe there’s nothing quite like documenting the moment a baby is born. But I also understand that every family’s comfort level, vision, and preferences are different — and that’s okay.
Whether you're drawn to the raw emotion of birth, the peaceful sweetness of a Fresh 48, or both, my goal is always the same: to tell your story with care, respect, and heart.
